Good morning, and happy Monday readers! If you’re like me, an avid coffee drinker that needs that morning cup of caffeine to get the day going, then you will LOVE this stuff called Matcha.
Matcha literally means “powdered tea”. The idea of Matcha dates back to old Japanese tradition, commonly associated with Zen (which is just what everyone needs on a Monday morning).
Why is the stuff so great? When drinking regular tea, you are essentially drinking water infused with the extracts from tea leaves, when drinking matcha, you are drinking the tea leaves themselves, literally.
What does this mean you ask? Matcha is tea leaves ground into a fine dissoluble powder. Since you are drinking the actual leaves, you are getting three times the health benefits that regular tea has to offer. Think…three times the vitamins, three times the antioxidants, and most importantly, three times the caffeine!
The important thing to know: Matcha is pretty bitter, so I don’t advise drinking it by itself. My favorite way is pairing it with a splash of lemonade so sweeten it up. Other ways I’ve seen it prepared is as a latte as seen here.
MATCHA TEA LEMONADE RECIPE
1 tsp matcha powder
3/4 c. warm water
1/4 c. lemonade
First, mix the match powder (I bought mine at Teavana) with the warm water. Use a whisk (like this matcha whisk) to blend the powder into the water. Next, mix in the lemonade. Serve over ice and enjoy!
